You are my hero! I've been using this list for many seasons now & is such a big help.
Welcome everyone to the new and probably permanent home for my genre tv list. This is my first comment here because blogger has been blocking my comments for some reason I can't figure out. Other people may have been blocked from commenting too. I have changed the comment settings and they now let me comment on my own blog, very generous of them.
For anyone curious, I also have a list on IMDb, though without dates and other such info, it isn't nearly as useful as the list here. The order of the list is roughly based on how much I like the shows. I watch everything in the top 25 and a few scattered below that. I only reorder the list a few times a year so new shows tend to be a ways down the list.

Most shows finishing up or going on winter hiatus in the next couple weeks. Only a couple shows continue right through the holidays.
24 more days til the Doctor Who Christmas Special. It's been a long year with out my fix.
The Fall season is now over, with only a few shows continuing through the holidays. The Winter season will slowly start to pick up in 2 weeks.
Obama will be pre-empting a bunch of shows on Tuesday night depending on which time zone you live in, but none of the shows on my list will be affected.
For those in the LA area, this weeks episode of iZombie will air on Saturday.

All 10 episodes of 12 Monkeys third season will be aired this weekend, 4 Friday, 3 Saturday, 3 Sunday.

Always good to hear people still find it useful. I've been maintaining this list for almost 10 years now, 2 years here, and 8 years before on other sites that no longer exist. I make minor changes to the list several times a week, tweaking dates and such.
Most shows on the list will be going on hiatus for 2 weeks during the Olympics. Only a few shows will continue to air during the Olympics.

It has only been 7 years since I added the first online series to my list and now there are more online series than there are tv series on the list. The clock is ticking for broadcast television. Ratings continue to plummet for the vast majority of network shows. The networks now renew shows with half the viewers of shows that were getting canceled just 5 years ago. I would not be surprised if one of the big 5 (ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX/CW) gets shut down by 2025.
And on that note - is it time to combine the lists? Having the current "network" shows listed first and the upcoming network shows listed last with the current and upcoming streaming shows all in one list between them is a bit hard to follow. Considering that some streaming shows are released all at once and some are released weekly and a few network shows have tried the binge model (12 Monkeys), maybe there's not enough difference to merit having separate lists anymore. I watch shows of both types, so having to look through three different lists to double-check what is current and what is upcoming is a bit clunky.

I have thought many times about combining in order to simplify things, but there are also reasons for keeping them separated. That said, unless someone objects to me combining them in the next week or so, then I will do so.
When combining, I will dump the season# data from the online shows, but I will add links to the official sites for network shows.
I might also change online shows from saying "now" to "binge". That might make it more clear when the entire season is available immediately. FYI, I have typically kept bingeable shows listed as "now" for 2 months before dropping them down to upcoming/canceled.
I have started the process. I have added links to official pages for all current and upcoming shows (if they exist). I will merge the online and on air lists some time in the next week.
I also added several past, present, future foreign shows that are available on shudder.com (another online subscription service, mostly focused on horror). Some of them look interesting.

Thanks Waitforit, I did not know about that one. So far it is only going to air on Canadian tv. If it gets picked up by an American channel or streaming service, I will likely add it to the list. It says it is aimed at "youth", which can vary a lot in quality. They mention it will involve a lot of music and dance. I don't add much of the Disney/Nickelodeon/Netflix kids shows as they don't typically hold much interest to anyone outside of the 4-12 year old range. I added it to today's "development hell" list and will keep an eye on it.
Bloom on Hulu is also playing and it is Scifi. Pretty good.

4400 - Maybe Fall 2020, CW will probably let us know some time around April if they are going to pick it up.
Consider Phlebas - Amazon hasn't really said anything since they acquired the rights about a year and a half ago. They don't put out a lot of pre-hype for their shows, so we probably won't know anything until it is about 2 months from release.

Not sure what you are asking. When I hear about shows I add them to the list or to the development hell sections in my updates. Many of the shows on my list are not widely advertised.

Sorry, I don't generally add children's or animated shows to the list. I briefly had Wizards of Waverly Place on the list many years ago, but decided that could be a big slippery slope into a lot of kids shows that have fantasy elements. In the end, I decided to not include any Nick shows.
I have had a few kid's shows and animated shows on the list, typically things that I was watching (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who spinoffs, etc), so it was easy for me to keep track of them.
I have avoided adding DC/Marvel animated shows because there are a ton of them. I have made an exception for What if...?, but I might change my mind on that later.
I also include some medieval type shows with swords, like Vikings and The Last Kingdom. I might add Barbarians.
There is a lot of grey area, but most of the thin lines are fairly clear in my head.
And there are also quite a few (very watchable) fantasy series that aren't easily available worldwide, notably from China. It would just be annoying to have too much to sift through for most people, and too much work for Baff. Anything that makes this too much work needs to be strenuously avoided so it can continue forever!!!
About 10 years ago, I had a section devoted to foreign shows that weren't in the US (yet). But, now that the list is up to almost 200 shows, it just isn't worth spending much of my time trying to keep up with foreign shows that haven't been picked up by a US outlet.
The first 3 seasons of Ministry of Time were available on Netflix (not anymore). HBO Spain produced the 4th season, and aired it last May in Spain, but it isn't available in the US yet. I still have it on my list, but not sure for how much longer.
Debris premieres March 1st on NBC. It comes from J.H. Wyman, the creator of Fringe and Almost Human. It seems to be another X-Files/Fringe type show with the govt agents investigating weird stuff. The mythology will be focused on aliens.

So a couple of weeks ago I was thinking to myself that maybe it's time to stop having any real expectations that any good TV would come from the SyFy channel. It seems like it's been years since they've created anything that I had to watch. No Eureka, Heaven, Warehouse 13, Battle Star or Stargate just to name a few. But today I watched the first episode of Resident Alien and I know you can't judge a show on just one episode but I did enjoy it. I'm actually looking forward to next weeks episode. The pessimist in me is saying "If you like it, they'll cancel it after the first season maybe season two". I guess I'm just becoming that grumpy old man trying to tell the youngsters about the good ole days of the Sci-Fi channel.
@stricnin, I know for a fact I am that grumpy old man with the exact same sentiments on the SyFy channel. I guess I will reconsider watching Resident Alien, it just didn't seem to have that true scifi feel as many of the older shows did to me, I guess

@Stricnin/Ray - Syfy has gone down hill over the last 20 years. In the last 5 years, the only shows I have watched are Dark Matter & Killjoys, both gone now. I have been looking forward to Resident Alien. I am an Alan Tudyk fan. I am holding off to binge watch it as it finishes. Hopefully it will get a 2nd season.
An explanation of a minor nuance in how I handle dates.

Every few months I consider adding the number of seasons. I have now set it up and I am starting at the bottom of the list and working my way up. It will take a while to add to the whole list, so don't expect it to be done overnight. It does get a bit odd with some shows that have an official number of seasons but they also have mini-series and add-on movies.

Every browser comes with a built-in webpage search function. Control-F on Windows. Command-F on Mac. Those commands work in a lot of other apps too.
You can also use Control/Command-G to find the next instance of your search term. I use these quick searches on websites (including my own) all the time.

I have finished adding seasons. This gave me a chance to re-look at every show on the list. The list is pretty accurate now (as accurate as it can be given the number of complete unknowns).
I moved a few shows from the Past section up to the Upcoming section.
I moved several of last year's shows that are still in limbo from the Upcoming section down to the Past section and marked them as "Canceled?" or "Finished?".
I pushed a bunch of shows from 2021 to 2022, some to specific seasons.
I pushed a bunch of Summer shows to Fall. Some Summer shows got more specific dates.
I have a few upcoming shows that need to be added to the list, mostly spin-offs.
I also have a huge number of Development Hell shows that I could put in updates, like 100 shows. Not sure if I will get around to that or not, it is rather daunting.

Kristian - Thanks, but I don't include the Nick/Disney/Netflix kid shows on the list. I do occasionally add one to the list, but usually because I am watching it or because it is a spinoff of some other show.
Unknown - Knightfall is in the gray area for the list, I had considered adding it years ago. I will add it now, but it was canceled last year.

I just stumbled on your list and I love it. I was wondering if there was a list like this anywhere that also included past shows (e.g. Star Trek, Babylon 5). I am always looking for great shows, even older shows, to dive into. This list has opened up a few new possibilities for me. One of the things that I love is you state whether a show was cancelled or finished. This helps me know if I am going to get a satisfactory ending if I invest the time. Thanks again..

A lot of canceled shows ended on a cliffhanger in order to add extra pressure for the network to renew them. But, keep in mind that a lot of shows that were canceled do have moderately satisfying endings that didn't end on a cliffhanger.
Whoops - you have Lord of the Rings set to start Sep 2 - but that is in 2022, not this year.

No, Sorry, I haven't heard anything about the new BSG for quite a while. I did have it listed as "2021?", but that info was pretty old. I have now pushed it to 2022.
So many of the shows in my background image were no longer around, so I updated it with current and upcoming shows.

Now that you have listened to the whole song you are probably disappointed. I think that guy just makes generic riffs for selling to tv/movie studios.
If you like that sound, I would suggest The Doors "Roadhouse Blues" for some real music. That is most likely the song that inspired him.

I am now mostly caught up with adding new shows, I still have about 20 more shows on my personal list to check if they need to be added here. Next on my list is cleaning up the Fall & 2021 sections.

As my list gets longer and longer, I am less and less inclined to add animated series to the list, even when they are adult oriented. In fact, last month when I decided against adding Arcane, I also removed a couple other animated shows from the list. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I did a lot of clean-up on the list, but no time for adding right now. I will take a look at The Silent Sea, Beforeigners, Bulgasal (another Korean show), and several other shows.

Hi Baff,
How technical are you? Thinking about it, this could probably be made to work very well as an open source project, with you as the owner. The community could then suggest changes and you would just accept or reject, or make changes on your own.
Basically, have things how they are now but have the data hosted on github in either CSV or JSON files and then have some javascript in the page that gets it and displays it how it does now.
This way there could be other kinds of file, like foreign cartoons, etc. that others could even manage. The sky is the limit a bit...
Github also allows you to create static sites for free, so if you don't care about being on blogger, you could even have your own dedicated domain name (which I volunteer to pay for for the next 5 years as thanks for your wonderful work!).
I am more than happy to support every stage of this, if you need or want any help. Absolutely any developer will have no problems helping you on any of this though, as what I am suggesting is very simple for a developer!
Ray: Soon! I have had 4 projects (unrelated to this list) keeping me busy for the last 6 months. One project ends today and another ends in a few more days. That will give me a bit more time to spend on this list.
Anton: I am fairly technical. I was a comp.sci major (ada, pascal, c++, basic, fortran, lisp, prolog, assembly, probably some others I have forgotten), but that was 30 years ago. Programming was never my main occupation. Other than dabbling a bit with html, css, perl and such, I haven't done any real programming in a very, very long time. I couldn't write a Hello World script in any language off the top of my head right now. Everything you see on my page, I code by hand. I am old-school, I rarely use any wysiwyg.
It certainly would not be hard to setup the format (it is just a few tables) and fill it in with data. If someone else did the gruntwork setting it up, it should be easy for me to manage and modify as needed. I have downloaded stuff from github, but I have never been an active participant. At some point I did create a github account, but I don't even remember why.
So, yeah, I am open to the idea. I don't care about blogger, it was convenient when the official Netflix forum went away. This list started on that forum 13.5 years ago as a post I updated. It has grown a bit since then.
I think I am caught up on adding shows to the list, so if you notice something missing, please let me know.
I checked a couple shows in the canceled section, but that needs more work. Many of those '?' shows are in limbo and it just isn't known if they will get more seasons. Also, Netflix isn't always very good about announcing that shows have been canceled, especially foreign ones.

Echo has been in development hell for like a decade. I first heard about it shortly after the movie Source Code came out, which by pure coincidence has the exact same plot... Now it has been long enough that most people won't make that connection anymore.

Just to add to the Echo confusion, ABC has had a time loop show called Echo Point in development hell for about 5 years.
Yes, Echo is the epitome of development hell. Very few people would remember that connection. It's been that long since I saw Source Code, I couldn't even remember that it had body-swapping.
Could you consider Archive 81 for inclusion? - First series recently ended, looks likely to have a second season - IMDB classes it as drama,horror,mystery,sci-fi,thriller. The sci-fi element will be the time travel (my favourite genre).
